Our Story
"I have a passion for creating connections that empower people through functional art."
Hi, my name is Virginia Ayala, pronounced in Spanish ver-ji-nya after my abuela. My parents migrated from El Salvador to this country and always set the example of believing in oneself and that anything is possible if you work hard. For 18 cycles of seasons through De La Luna Designs, I have woven my artistry through functional art pieces.
With a passion for breathing new life into vintage and reused treasures, layering fabric upon fabric, weaving stories that inspire us to connect to nature and its lessons. My love of bringing things together and making them new came from my environment and upbringing. We did not have much money, so we did not go to malls or department stores. Our favorite places to go shopping and still do are thrift stores.
I had a mad love for the 70's in my junior high school years, the influence of my mother and father, and their fly style. In High school, I fell in love with Jungle Music and the 90's raver look. I also loved hip-hop, the baggy pants and the tight tees. I never was one to have a specific style; I was always inspired by friends, music and the art of the find. I'm positive this is why I can't keep to one style or genre in my collections.
Clothing conveys a story, every fabric and image layered adds to it. Those who wears it and where it goes brings it to life. Sharing stories through functional art can illuminate our path and inspire others to see their own. By sharing our unique experiences, we create a powerful connection that can lead to inspiration, solutions and a deeper understanding of life.
Over the years, I have had to shift and learn, slow down and expand, reassess ad restructure. I've had to show that I am hard-working, determined and passionate as well as open to changing what is necessary to grow the most effectively. Success is sharing what I love while enjoying my life with family and friends. Connecting with other creatives who love their craft and want to bridge and grow together. Cheers to your story and the ability for it to inspire others!
